attack commands

hi i'm opening a new topic since im not able to find a good answer to those questions.
Since the only rts i played before are starcraft and WC3, im a bit confused on how my units respond when i tell them to attack. The attack command seems to be an attack ground command and the move command makes my units attack but they still move toward the move waypoint. Is there a command equivalent to the attack command used in starcraft and warcraft?
Concerning artillery, i have problems taking advantage of their long range if im not single targeting everything. Is there a way to make them advance up to the point where they are in range then stop and fire (WITHOUT me having to specify each target)
Third and final questions: i really like the way air units move in this game, but since im used to sc and wc, where air units are immobile, i cant find a way to use aircraft correctly, especially bombers. Anyone has tips on how to use them correctly?|||I remember that the attack command in SC used on the ground would make all units move towards that point and stop to attack all units along the way. In SupCom, the attack-move command is to hold the Alt key and then right-click as if giving a move order. An attack-move command similar to that in SC will be issued and the waypoint marker will reflect that. In SupCom original (vanilla), it should be a blue move arrow with a red attack marker on the ground while in Forged Alliance (FA), it should be a red arrow with a red marker on the ground that is slightly different from the normal attack marker.
For artillery, turn on range rings. This may be a problem if you are in vanilla SupCom though. The range rings show you the maximum range of a unit's longest-ranged weapon (there's only 1 weapon on artillery, so that flaw won't matter). Move your units to a point where your targets are within the range ring and they will fire away as long as they are in the "return fire" firing state.
I cannot speak with any authority on air, but in general there is much less air micro in SupCom. For bombers, I've heard that it is best to pick targets that are in a line to attack so that they don't have to waste time circling around and will go in a straight path bombing multiple targets. Also, use bombers to target volatile structures like power generators or mass fabricators so that they can cause a lot more damage. If in FA, remember to compensate for the bomber bug by targetting either the ground or a nearby structure behind the one you want to bomb.|||thx for answer. Is there any other way to artillery? In starcraft if i use guardian and attack-move toward enemy base, they will start to shoot as soon as they are in range and stop moving. Maybe it's because unit can attack and move at the same time, but whenever i want to do that in supcom, my artillery keep advancing on the enemy instead of shooting from max range|||I don't know any way to do what you want in SupCom. But SupCom uses a different philosophy. When I play, I put my arty in one group and my tanks in another. I put my arty in some arbitrary spot near the enemy base so that they shell it while I just use my tanks to charge in. But I also play FA, not vanilla, and in FA it is easier to judge where to place your arty.
In SupCom, using your maximum range and all that complex micro is generally not necessary. Artillery and tanks are more or less expendable. They are built by the hundreds and are destroyed by the hundreds. Micro is all about dodging enemy shots and putting your forces where theirs can't hit you (like air combat. Try to make your planes approach their planes from behind so it is harder for them to get hit). In the (rare) cases where you really need maximum range, then just manually target those enemies. This is my experience with the game, that the sort of precision that you are talking about really isn't necessary in 99% of cases.|||there is almost never a need to attack units individually. alt-click for your typical attack-move, otherwise just give move orders. there are more important things to be doing.|||thx for those answers. As a sc, wc3 player i might be giving too much importance to micro in a game that features battles between hundreds of units.
Im now getting use to moving my land units but im still having trouble with air. How should i be using those bombers and intercepor. I always feel they are doing useless arc in the air without beeing useful. Thats especially the case for bombers. I think they need a lot of time to recharge and after droping their bomb they stay in the range of the enemy AA instead of retreating and coming back|||so ive been playing for a few days now and im still having problems using my bombers. The rest of the air force is ok but the bombers give me a lot of problems. I stumbled on this video and im wonderign if this realy work: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 738754535#
For my part, when i use bombers, they tend to get easily destroyed.|||I admit I am no expert, or even average (started playing a month ago), but how exactly are you using your bombers?
Bombers are only good for taking out crucial targets, and are pretty much useless for anything else. Bombers are capable of dealing a ton of damage in short period of time, though are horrible at constantly doing damage.
If your using them against land blobs, I suggest you stick with gunships as they deal more constant and accurate damage.
