Should I Buy Supreme Commander 2

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has bought this game and can provide feedback to me. I know its a little simplified and the graphics are worse in general. But what are the positives if any? I can live with the slightly smaller scale as I do believe battles can be a bit long winded in FA and I like the idea of quicker expermentals. The demo put me off because of the textures, flat looking tanks and the small map. But I was hoping the full game may have better graphics than the demo, bigger maps and perhaps have been patched a bit to improve the economy model etc. Any advice from those who own both FA and SUP COM 2 would be appreciated. Thanks.|||The DLC for it adds some largish maps. Most people are going to say get the DLC.
Textures are still flat, and the campaign is as bad as it is in the demo.
The economy has definitely improved. Not to the level that FA had, but it's actually playable, and making sense, now.|||Hi thx for the reply, how has the economy improved? and does the research system add something to the game or not? is there a working coordinated attack in the game now? Is there a matchranking system in place now?|||So the economy is a lot easier now; if you can't afford it now, things will pause until they can, then carry on. The demo had that retarded system where once something paused, it paused indefinitely until you manually told it to continue. You couldn't queue up buildings that you couldn't afford either.
Now you can, but it's not perfect. Say you want to build a 1200 mass Monkey Lord, but only have 600 mass in the bank, and that's not increasing because your factories balance with your mexes - you'll never be able to afford the Monkey.
Coordinated attack never worked in Sup1/FA, so it's not really a loss when comparing the two.
Ranked is in, with match making. I have no idea if the ranked community is alive or dead, or whatever. I never played it online, FA was more my thing.|||Ranked is basically dead over in Sup com 2. It's really hard finding a ranked game in comparison to FA.|||SupCom 2 is different from FA in that it aims to keep all units in the game useful throughout the course of the game. Unlike in FA when you tech up to higher tier units and you can completely discard the lowere-tiered ones, you pretty much keep all your units in SupCom 2 and upgrade them through the new research tree. Also, the more advanced units are unlocked via the new research tree and not through upgradeable factories.
The one thing that you should be aware at the outset is that SupCom 2 is not FA. If you are expecting FA, then you wont find it in SupCom 2.
My advice: wait until the next Steam sale to get it, because if you don't like it, chances are you will hate it and will regret spending more money on it than necessary. The demo is a decent guage, so if you are generally unsatisfied with the demo, chances are likely that you wont be satisfied with the full game.|||My advice is:
Buy the SupCom2 game plus the DLC1. Simply as that :D .|||I dislike the campaign and the competitive multiplayer scene is on its last legs, but its still really great fun. Biggest improvements over supcom 1 are the research tree and economy (either love it or hate it, I love it.), OMGWTFBBQ better pathfinding (FA was horrible), OMGWTFBBQ better AI (thx Sorian), an AMAZING improvement in performance, and in my opinion better gameplay in general, besides naval. If you like the old scale and economy, try the Revamp mod, you wont be disappointed.
TLDR: I think the positives outweigh the negatives. But SC2 cant really be compared to FA as its a completely different game. Its good. Buy it, including DLC.|||I guess I will buy it, its only a tenner but with the DLC its a bit expensive. Is it better to download off steam or get the boxed version, any instructions with the boxed version?|||Bilko1000|||Ok just bought it for £9.99, I will see if I like the main game before I buy the expansion pack. Hopefully the main game has been patched and improved over the demo but for a tenner its worth a try thx|||Bilko1000|||At the steam prices it's worth getting it and the dlc.
You'll probably get your money's worth of playing out of it.
If you really liked FA it probably won't keep you as entertained for as long as FA did,
But if your computer is quite low spec you'll probably love it!|||Nephylim|||He's probably only talking about the unmodded version of the game...|||ARMYguy|||RPhilMan1|||Also Sorian's AI Overlord for SupCom2 is very intelligent. The AI in FA can't coordinate nearly as well as they can in SupCom2.|||RPhilMan1|||sorian|||sorian|||Hi all I have played a few online matches now, I like it, but your right its not FA, its not particularly bad, but unlike FA it dosnt make me go wow when I play it either. The battles even with all the experimentals dont seem as impressive to me now, the experimentals seem less spectacular and epic. Playing the computer skirmish on hard I was forced to jet pack and build a new base on another island. He had about 30 king kriptors on the continent which I must have nuked over 10 times and they survivied. Sent in numerous soul ripper IIs, cybranosaurus things and no joy. I had all the tech and I couldnt be bothered to finish the match. Thats the problem with this game, experimentals are too easy to acquire and are not the game enders they used to be. The game I played lasted over an hour so criticisms that Sup Com lasts too long are just as applicable to Sup Com 2. All the more so as the experimentals are less destructive. I disliked the Camera Angle set up as you cant seem to level it with the ground. Experimentals are not so impressive when there are 30 plus of them moving around. It reminds me of the sequel to the Matrix, with too many Mr Smiths, who was awesome in the first Matrix, disappointing thereafter.
But I liked the faster pace, even though you dont seem to get too far with it, it adds some excitement. The research tree is a good idea and should be ported to Sup Com Forged Alliance. But in a way to combine it with the tier system. You could have standard tiers with research to improve each tier to make it a tier 2.5 etc. Perhaps that would prevent a tier rush and redundant units in the current FA. The research system also keeps you scouting to see whats coming next, its a definite improvement.
I disliked the lack of unit formations, lack of aircraft refueling and the way they seem to hover, but hey thats just taste. I never found the Sup Com econ difficult but I dont mind the new economy model in Sup Com 2 either, still prefer FA's though.
I will continue to play Sup Com 2 but im sorry to say it simply reminds me how good a game Forged Alliance really is. Im not trolling though, I still fee the £9.99 was well spent and Sup Com 2 is different from FA so I feel one game does not make the other redundant although I wished Sup Com 2 did want to make me stop playing FA.|||RPhilMan1|||Bilko1000|||sorian
