Help speeding up Supreme Commander Forged Alliance?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I just want to say that I don't want to have to install anything or run any EXEs to speed it up. I am, quite frankly, very paranoid about what I download/modify, and hope there is a simple way to do this.
And I mean, it is terrifyingly slow. I jack up the game speed to plus 10, set everything I can turn off in video options to off, and everything else to low, except for fidelity, which I set to medium. I also turn off the world border and "render sky" option. I never play on maps larger than 20X20 KM, never set the max unit count to above 500, and never have more than 4 AIs on a map. And yet it lags so bad it records 1 minute for every five that go by on my wall-mounted clock.
I have a 2007 Vista Home Edition.
Th only mods I run are Blackops Advanced Command Units and Resource Rich.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
|||What are your system specs??|||slinki|||Type "System Information" into your windows search bar. It should then be one of the options that comes up. Just click on it and it will tell you everything you need to know.|||slinki|||What is the CPU speed (it's a number followed by GHz)? And what video card do you have? You can also search dxdiag and run the DirectX Diagnostics Tool to get that information.
You are suffering from simspeed slowdown which is related to your CPU power. Your graphics settings will have little to no effect. That's why we need your CPU speed and model.
Have you patched the game to the latest version?
The AI in FA has memory leaks and other flaws that greatly reduce performance. I suggest you go down to the AI Mods forum and download Duncane's AI Fixes. They are perfectly safe and fix many of those performance problems as well as make the AI a more capable opponent. The Sorian AI is also highly recommended and is the foundation of a good experience with the AI. Both mods can run together.|||X-Cubed|||For the version number, check in the upper-right corner of the main menu. A game that is patched to the latest official version should say 1.5.3599.
That 2.2 GHz CPU might be a bit weak for the game. Stick to smaller games. But if the AI mods are enough to make mid-sized games playable, then that's great.
If you get simspeed slowdown, it means that everything is moving in slow-motion. If you get graphical slowdown, it means the game gets jerky and stuttery. Press / on the numpad to enable to frame counter. If the number is low, then you have graphical slowdown. To check simspeed, press ~ (the tilde key) and then type in the console ren_shownetworkstats, then press Enter. A box will show up. The value after "Actual Speed" is your current simspeed.|||X-Cubed|||Normal simspeed is 0 for FA (1 sec. in-game = 1 real-world sec.). For FA, the fps should be above 30 for most situations. It can dip into the upper 20's for brief periods and still remain playable, but it should be above 30 (this rule of 30 applies for all games).|||basically you need to stop playing against the AI. the AI will progressively slow your computer down from the get go. play against friends if you can.|||pkc|||not just that, isn't there an issue with the AI where it doesn't stop giving orders to dead units? or something like that, im not sure what the tech speak is.|||I believe there is some funky issue with something like that.. yeah. Sorians AI helps out a little there, but buying it for your mates is the best way to go.|||Thanks for all the advice. One thing however.
How do you use FA multiplayer? Is it necessary to use GPGnet?
because I have never gotten it to work. And whenever I try to go and look
for a game someone is hosting I get nothing.|||CommanderHelios|||X-Cubed|||Download this file (safe file) and run it with administrator priveleges. This willl patch your game to the latest version. The admin mode is because sometimes the patch will fail to run without admin priveleges.
