With core maximiser, I got through the whole thing with about 1/2 a second of slowdown.
And in case you think I'm just ramblin' on, this is what I'm talking about.|||What was your score?|||slinki|||Um... I have no idea what you are talking about. What is a 'benchmark game'?
Also, since I'm at it, does the core maximiser work on windows 7? It's not listed among the compatible OS.
/noobiness|||xingbing1|||ShamusZ3R0|||xingbing1|||Aha, thanks. Not particularly new to gaming, but never come across that term before.

Just to clarify, because I have a sneeking supsicion that I'm not using the core maximiser right: Do I have to start up the c.m. before booting up FA? Because if it's supposed to start automatically, then that's not happening. Regardless, I have both it and FA both running, task manager tells me that instead of having all the work put on the first core, it's being put on the second, third and fourth cores (but not the first for some reason). I don't notice any difference in the lag in-game (i.e. always a fair bit, regardless whether I'm at the start w/ just a commander, or when I'm lobbing several nukes around w/ a big base. Haven't done any truly massive games yet though.)
EDIT: I think that's actually because it's my graphics card isn't good enough, not the processer.
Well, wtvr. Thanks for helping out me and my noobiness. :)
EDIT: And go and make a score! I have a feeling mine is gonna be a lot worse than yours... EDITEDIT: I got 6047.|||xingbing1|||On Windows 7, make sure that the Remote Desktop Services are turned on for Core Maximizer to work. Go to the start menu, search "services.msc" without quotes, run services.msc, find Remote Desktop Services, and then set it to run automatically. CM required the Terminal Service under Vista, and RDS is the Win7 replacement for the Terminal Service.
Also, FA can only effectively use 3 cores. Any more, and the gain will be minimal. There are 22 threads in FA. 2 of them (the simulation thread and the rendering thread) control about 90% of the game. Those threads can use a maximum of 1 core each, so you can get at most 2 cores out of those 2 threads. The other 20 threads are very small and have almost no impact on performance, and will use at most .5 to 1 core. So 3 cores is the limit of any real performance gains from multithreading.
Also note that FA has a problem with thread timings (I remember it was done to ensure compatibility with some very old AMD CPUs) in which using CM will cause the simspeed to slow down sooner. It's not that noticeable, but it will happen.|||Alrighty, thanks for all your help guys. Core Maximiser is working. And I have lag type 2 - except unlike you, mine has framerate issues from as soon as I start the game.

My graphics card is NOT GOOD. *ponders about upgrading*
EDIT: @Shamus: I just did a bit of research. Your card is approximately 10 times better than mine, apparantly.

Ack, anyway, steering back on topic a bit, post some scores! I need something to compare my 6047 against!
