Is the Community Still Active?

[:1]Howdy all,
I found the gold edition for a mere $15 in a local games shop. Was thinking of buying it (I've played FA on a friend's PC for a bit at LANs, and I enjoyed it). How does the online system handle lag/distance? (I'm in Australia). And are there people still playing?
Cheers,
- HateDread.|||A fellow Aussie here; the online games I've played all went rather smoothly.
On a technical level, the game's engine forces a 500ms ping between players. If you can connect and play with less than that ping, you won't see an once of difference.|||This community is as dead as a dog runing in a feild.
but other than that the online games are fun and great :D|||The community is alive and well. Don't listen to Reddev, he's just a little bitter because he got banned.|||reddev33|||I suppose "deader than a dog running in a field" is reddev's way of saying not dead at all. There's plenty of people who still play it. My guess is that the FA community will still be active for some time to come due to the love some many people have for this game, and the fact that nothing so far has been able to truly replace it (SupCom2 was a disappointment in the eyes of many FA fans).|||Falcrack|||Haha, Reddev, I was about to ask about that simile; I loved it :)
And thanks for the help, guys! I'm gonna pick up the gold edition today, probably, then jump on and get stomped :D
(I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed in Supcom 2. Horrifying).|||supcom 2 fail and you will pronly get owned in a metter of miutes unless u earn how to play the game and fast.|||I searched everywhere for it, and all of my local stores (both games stores and major retailers) no longer have it, and it's now 'discontinued'. Steam's pulled it as well. Anyone got any ideas?|||What do you mean "Steam's pulled it as well."
Steam never sold vanilla SupCom, or FA. It is still for sale at Impulse. Though it is going for $30AUD.
http://www.impulsedriven.com/products/ESD-IMP-W115|||Sorry, I thought it had, in the past. My bad.
And I'd be correct in assuming that I only really need FA, right? It's standalone, after all... or would I be missing important files/maps, etc?
(If it's just FA, I could always go for a digital download).|||you need fa to play with other 90% of the community as most play fa only,
You need fa and sc to play all the factions on gpgnet.|||The only thing from vanilla SupCom is the key; you can usually leave the game uninstalled. But yeah, as reddev said; the lion-share of the community is playing FA.|||I have supcom vanilla installed because from time to time I like to play the campaign. Others here may not like the campaigns, but I derive enjoyment from them (both SupCom vanilla and FA campaigns).|||Ordered gold edition with express shipping for Sydney, so it should arrive in a day or two. I'll hit you guys up for a game soon! (Don't be too mean :p ).
Thanks for the help :)|||HateDread|||New players, old players, current players supcom fa is the best game that there has ever been and will ever have been made and the online play is just fast and mental so get ready to enjoy the RTS of all time.
