While on the topic of the FA ladder mod, is there any way to enable seeing the score in replays of games played using the FA ladder mod?|||maybe that will help FA to come back alive over the summer, its just about here xD|||I'll be back for this, even if only for a little while. Thanks Valk.|||For the benefit of people returning to the game, can TAG_ROCK or any of the other FA-ladder players/modders give a brief description of the balance changes from the final retail patch of FA, and what some of the gameplay implications are?
Also, I assume that even with the new automatching server (which is great) word of mouth won't spread far/fast enough for FA-ladder to be immediately popular. So any tips on finding the community? (apart from the FA-ladder forums). Do people still hang out in GPGNet chatrooms or do they gather in IRC somewhere or what?|||This thread contains the change lists: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=40813
Quick summation:
- Restorers are nerfed to not be the I-Win-Button they used to be.
- Initial energy storage is reduced and buildings no longer grant it; you must build at least one E storage before you can use the ACU's Overcharge.
- All experimentals are increased in cost by about 25%
- T3 air is more expensive, energy wise, so it's much more difficult to win by sheer airspam.
- T1 air is reduced in cost a bit, and is far more useful than it used to be
- T2 tanks are buffed and so they're now worth building, as T2 bots no longer completely replace them.
- SAMs are cheaper, and flak is much more effective against T3 air.
- Navy is rebalanced so T3 is now useful; massed T2 is no longer better in every situation like it was in 3599.
- OC now does damage to ACUs. Not a terrible amount (300 IIRC?), but enough to make a difference if you remember to use it.
There's quite a bit more, but those are the main highlights. As for how this affects gameplay, compared to 3599:
- Airspam is no longer the be-all-and-end-all. It's actually quite difficult to get to T3 air without a significant economy investment; for early-mid game you'll want to just spam T1 ints as they can take down a small amount of T3 air when massed.
- The early game is much more balanced, due largely to the T2 tweaks and the energy storage requirements. It doesn't play a huge amount differently though (aside from the lack of scrambling-to-rush-ASF).
- Flak are awesome vs T1 and T2 air, and fairly competent against T3 (SAMs are still better vs T3, of course).
